【TW】Nuturn Farm: Realizing the Dynamic Balance of Nature
After experiencing food safety crises and climate changes, I have developed a deeper understanding of the meaning of the word “food”: “humanity” + “conscience” = “food”. I have also become aware of the importance of doing the right thing and doing it quickly. I must start it!

Tiaoyuan, an alumnus who graduated from the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine, has worked as a ranch veterinarian and even owned a pig farm. At the peak of his career, his name appeared on the list of directors of various associations in the swine industry.

However, due to the impact of policies related to water source and water protection, he decided to give up his pig farm and instead joined the F&B industry with his wife, who had a technician certificate for culinary. After undergoing this transformation, he faced natural disasters again: the Morakot Typhoon destroyed all of his restaurants. After rebuilding, the market gradually began to pay more attention to the food safety issue.

Through his experiences, Tiaoyuan realized that many human behaviors have severely damaged the natural environment, leading to the merciless backlash of global climate changes. So he began to seek the most environmentally friendly way of cultivation and provide another safe source of food for people, which led to the establishment of the Nuturn Farm.

“Being Environmentally Friendly” Has Been the Spirit of Nuturn Farm!

Starting from the aquaponics system, Tiaoyuan successfully uses the advantages of animals and plants in nature to solve each other's problems. They mutually promote and restrain each other, forming a symbiotic and burden-free environment. As expressed in the brand logo, the concept of “circulation” and “infinity” is used as inspiration, and the combination of trees and fish outlines a symbiotic ecological environment, which is also the concept that Tiaoyuan wants to convey from Nuturn Farm.

Therefore, for many years, he has been committed to operating a “natural farming method of symbiosis, coexistence, and co-prosperity”, which is considered “the right thing”. He not only wants to provide safe and healthy food to restaurant consumers but also hopes to promote this zero-emission, low-carbon production farming method that complies with ecological circulation rules through ecological education. He wants to pass on the concept of loving the earth and being environmentally friendly to the next generation.


The Art of Balance: the Most Gentle Farming Method for Ecological Environment

Said sensitive Tiaoyuan: “Ecological balance is also a form of art!”

As someone who loves ecology and is willing to follow the laws of nature, Tiaoyuan spent a lot of time observing animals and plants, understanding their growth processes and habits, just to gradually realize the original intention of "environmental friendliness" for his Nuturn Farm. This also gave him an unexpected gain - vermicomposting!

Vermicomposting is the practice of using leftover food scraps to raise earthworms, and then utilizing the habit of earthworms - growing in the soil while also excreting on the soil surface - to turn over the soil and fertilize the surface layer of leafy vegetables and flowers. Using the "ecological planter" designed with this innovative farming method, people can easily grow leafy vegetables and flowers for teas at home by simply throwing in kitchen waste and watering.

The aquaponics system allows off-ground cultivation of vegetables by using plants to purify water and then using fish excrement to grow vegetables through microbial decomposition. “Chicken-raised lemon” allows chickens to grow freely in the lemon garden, so that chicken manure becomes the best fertilizer to help lemon trees grow.

Whether it is pesticide-free, zero-emission natural farming methods like "aquaponic symbiosis" and "vermicomposting," or humane farming methods that allow farm animals to grow freely in a happy and non-oppressive environment, these methods, which can directly reduce the environmental burden on the earth, are difficult for commercial farms to imitate!

As for the restaurant of the farm, it provides toxin-free ingredients from the farm to restaurant customers, and the food waste and kitchen scraps are then taken back to the farm to raise black soldier flies for feeding fish and egg-laying chickens. This insistence on the concept of “from farm to table, and then back to the farm” not only meets the modern trend of food safety, but also makes restaurant customers part of the “ecological cycle,” and further spreads the concept of “environmental friendliness” among customers!

 

What Motivated You to Get Back on Track after a Series of Frustrations?

Regarding the achievements he obtained after experiencing many setbacks, Tiaoyuan humbly brushed it off with simple words: “As long as you keep your passion, things won't be so difficult!” He also generously promoted these ecological farming methods and related innovative designs to the public.

In addition to holding ecological education courses on the farm, he also went to schools to teach about the operating principles and demonstrated how to make his “ecological planter" for worm-vegetable symbiosis. All of his efforts were only in the hope that the concept of a harm-free environment and ecological protection can be spread further, and more people can understand and resonate!
